| Obverse description | At center, a square frame encloses an olive wreath rendered in low relief, evoking the victor's crown of the ancient Olympic Games. Immediately below the square appears the legend ΑΘΗΝΑ 2004, with the five-ring Olympic logo beneath it. The denomination 500 is prominently displayed in large numerals, with the rings of the logo integrated into the zeros, and the currency name ΔΡΑΧΜΕΣ appears in the lower field. The circular legend ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ (Hellenic Republic) runs along the full periphery of the obverse. |
