Obverse description The obverse is dominated by a large intaglio vignette of a mythical phoenix rendered in brown and orange tones, occupying the right half of the note against a multicolour guilloche underprint in gold and cream. The bank title 'Standard Chartered Bank' appears at the upper centre in English, with the Chinese name 香港渣打銀行 below, alongside the promise-to-pay clause and the date '1st JANUARY 1993 HONG KONG'.
