At centre-lower, a rectangular aperture is inset with a red Tiffany-style art glass element depicting an arched doorway, with the legend 'Tiffany Art Metropolis' incuse to its left. Palau has operated one of the most prolific commemorative programs in the Pacific, issuing coins for decades under licensing arrangements that have little to do with the island nation's own history or economy. This piece belongs to a series leveraging the Tiffany glass technique — kiln-fired colored glass set into a coin's field — a method pioneered in numismatic production by the German mint B.H. Mayer in the early 2000s and since widely imitated.
The Palace of Westminster was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, sharing that status with Westminster Abbey and Saint Margaret's Church in the same declaration.
