Palau's ultra-fine gold issues from this period were produced under contract by the Bavarian State Mint in Munich, which handled much of the Pacific island nation's premium collector coinage during the 2000s and 2010s. Palau itself has no mint infrastructure, and its coin program is essentially a licensing arrangement — the numismatic revenue constitutes a meaningful fraction of government income for a nation of roughly 20,000 people.
The "Marat" designation places this within a French Revolutionary figures series. Jean-Paul Marat was assassinated in his medicinal bath by Charlotte Corday in July 1793.
