The Wedge-Tailed Eagle series is among Perth Mint's most commercially successful bullion programs, running continuously since 2014 and commanding consistent premiums in Asian markets over comparable sovereign issues. This particular piece occupies an unusual technical category: a gold coin with platinum plating, a combination Perth has deployed selectively to create bimetallic surface contrasts without the structural complexity of a true two-alloy bonded coin. The plating layer is applied post-strike.
Elizabeth II's sixth and final portrait, by sculptor Jody Clark, was used on Australian coinage from 2015 until her death in September 2022 — making 2023 issues among the last to carry it before transition to Charles III.
