| Descripción del anverso | Printed in grey-violet on a multicolour guilloche underprint, the obverse is dominated by a central vignette of a seated classical female figure to the right, rendered in fine intaglio engraving, accompanied by a large oval watermark space to the left. The bank's bilingual title in English and Chinese characters runs across the top, flanked by the denomination numeral '500' in each corner with corresponding Chinese characters 伍百圓. The promise-to-pay text, date 'HONGKONG 1ST OCTOBER, 1927', and two manuscript signatures above the printed titles of Chief Accountant and Chief Manager appear in the lower portion of the note. |

Bradbury Wilkinson produced this note from their New Malden works during a period when HSBC's note-issuing authority in Hong Kong was essentially unchallenged — the colonial government had no central bank, and private bank currency was the practical reality of daily commerce. At HK$500, this was not a note that changed hands often; denominations this large moved between trading houses, comprador firms, and major merchants, not across market stalls.
Surviving examples from this short window of issue are genuinely rare. The 1935 Currency Ordinance restructured Hong Kong's note-issuing framework, and high-denomination notes from the preceding decade were actively retired rather than worn out in circulation.
