Obverse description Printed in grey-violet on a multicolour guilloche underprint, the obverse is dominated by a central vignette of a seated classical female figure to the right, rendered in fine intaglio engraving, accompanied by a large oval watermark space to the left. The bank's bilingual title in English and Chinese characters runs across the top, flanked by the denomination numeral '500' in each corner with corresponding Chinese characters 伍百圓. The promise-to-pay text, date 'HONGKONG 1ST OCTOBER, 1927', and two manuscript signatures above the printed titles of Chief Accountant and Chief Manager appear in the lower portion of the note.
