The Perth Mint's 155.5g gold Koala series occupies an unusual position in the Australian bullion market — unlike the Kangaroo series, whose design changes annually, the Koala program has historically refreshed its reverse imagery each year specifically to discourage melting and encourage collector retention. By 2015, this had become a deliberate commercial strategy to differentiate the series from purely weight-driven bullion competitors.
