The Wedge-Tailed Eagle bullion series from Perth Mint has run annually since 2014, but the high-relief proof strikes occupy a distinct tier — the deeply sculpted fields require multiple strikes under significantly greater pressure, slowing production and limiting viable yields per die pair. The 2017 issue was struck to a mintage of just 135 pieces worldwide, making it one of the more tightly constrained releases in the series.
At five troy ounces of .9999 fine gold, this coin draws on Perth's long-standing refinement infrastructure, which traces its assaying operations to the Western Australian gold rushes of the 1890s.
