| Additional information |
The Centrale Bank van Suriname was established in 1957, a full decade before independence, making its 50th anniversary in 2007 a commemoration of institutional continuity rather than national founding. Suriname had endured a military coup in 1980, successive economic crises, and a hyperinflationary collapse in the early 1990s that wiped out the value of the earlier Surinamese guilder entirely — the currency was replaced by the Surinamese dollar only in 2004, just three years before this issue.
That timing is pointed. A central bank marking its jubilee while still operating under a currency less than three years old.
