| Reverse description | Two dynamic biathlon figures are depicted in high relief within a plain inner circle: in the left foreground, a cross-country skier wearing competition number 40 strides forward with poles, while in the right foreground a kneeling competitor wearing number 13 takes aim with a rifle. The circular legend surrounds the design, reading along the upper arc and continuing to the lower field where the host city and year appear. The composition effectively captures the two disciplines of the biathlon event. |

| Additional information |
Yugoslavia secured the rights to host the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo over competing bids from Sapporo and Falun, making it the first Winter Games held in a socialist country. The commemorative program that followed was extensive, with multiple denominations issued across 1982–1984 covering individual sports — biathlon among them.
The series was struck at the Kremnica Mint in Czechoslovakia, not domestically.
