| 裏面の説明 | A finely detailed naturalistic composition occupies the central field, depicting an adult European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) facing left in profile, accompanied by two juvenile hedgehogs clustered in the lower foreground, their spines rendered with exceptional engraving detail. The denomination D500 is inscribed in the lower exergue. The legend PRESERVE PLANET EARTH curves along the upper periphery in evenly spaced Latin capital letters, forming part of the internationally recognised conservation series issued by Pobjoy Mint. |

Bosnia and Herzegovina issued this coin in 1995 while the country was still at war — the Dayton Agreement wasn't signed until December of that year. The convertible marka wouldn't replace the dinar until 1998, meaning this hedgehog issue circulated, if it circulated at all, during one of the most chaotic monetary periods in post-Yugoslav history. Multiple parallel currencies were in use simultaneously across ethnically divided territories.
KM#42 is a collector-oriented issue rather than a workhorse circulation piece, which explains its survival rate in uncirculated condition.
