| 正面铭文 | SR JUGOSLAVIJA ЈНБ СР JУГОСЛАВИJА (Translation: Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Yugoslav National Bank) |
| 背面描述 | The reverse displays the large numeral '500' prominently in the center field, rendered in bold relief. Above the numeral, the word 'ДИНАРА' is inscribed in Cyrillic script, and below the numeral 'DINARA' appears in Latin script, together forming a bilingual denomination statement. The date '1993' is positioned in the lower field beneath the Latin denomination inscription. A segmented beaded border surrounds the design, consistent with the obverse styling. |

By early 1993, Yugoslavia's inflation rate had already broken into five digits annually, accelerating toward what would become the second-worst hyperinflation episode in recorded history — peaking at roughly 313 million percent per month by January 1994. This 500 dinar piece was a high-denomination coin when struck; within months, it was functionally worthless, overtaken by emergency banknotes denominated in the billions and eventually trillions. The Yugoslav government redenominated the currency multiple times in quick succession, each new dinar sweeping away several zeros without arresting the collapse.
Brass coinage from this period survives in abundance precisely because it never spent meaningful time in pockets.
