Bosnia's first independent currency series was assembled under wartime conditions, and the logistics showed. Cetis in Celje — a Slovenian security printer operating in a newly independent country itself — produced this note after Sarajevo lost access to the Yugoslav federal printing infrastructure in 1992. The arrangement was pragmatic rather than ideal, and the 500 Dinara entered circulation at a moment when the Bosnian dinar's purchasing power was already deteriorating under siege-economy inflation.
Dževad Hozo, who designed the series, was a Sarajevo-based artist and academic. That the design work was completed at all given the circumstances of 1992 is the more remarkable production detail.
