The 500 Denari is among the higher denominations in Macedonian circulation, a market where cash transactions at that value remain common enough to keep these notes working hard. Two printers sharing production of a single denomination across a series run is not unusual for small central banks managing cost and capacity, but it does mean that subtle differences in paper stock and ink saturation exist between TDLR and Oberthur printings — worth noting for anyone building a complete type collection rather than a circulated example.
Macedonia adopted the Denar in 1992 following dissolution of Yugoslavia, replacing the transitional Macedonian Denar at par in 1993.
