Mô tả mặt trước The note is oriented vertically with two mirror-image compositions arranged in rotational symmetry about the central horizontal axis. Each half bears an intaglio portrait vignette of Manuel Deodoro da Fonseca, first President of the Republic (1889–1891), set against a fine guilloche underprint. Inscriptions include the issuing authority, denomination numeral 500, the subject's name, and the printer's imprint.

Mô tả mặt sau The reverse shares the same vertical format with two rotationally symmetrical compositions. Each half presents a pictorial vignette illustrating a gathering of parliamentarians, referencing the Proclamation of the Republic, rendered in intaglio against a guilloche underprint. Ghi chú

Brazil's early 1980s were defined by runaway inflation — the cruzeiro was losing purchasing power so rapidly that this denomination, once substantial, became functionally trivial within a few years of issue. The note spans four signature combinations tied directly to the revolving door of central bank presidents during the debt crisis period, with Langoni resigning in 1983 under sharp disagreement with the government over IMF austerity terms — an unusually public break between a sitting bank president and the finance ministry.

The Galvêas/Pastore pairing covers the shorter final run, series A3510 onward.
