| Opmerkingen |
Uzbekistan's coupon currency was a transitional instrument introduced as the Soviet ruble collapsed, allowing the newly independent republic to control domestic purchasing while delaying full monetary reform. These coupons circulated alongside and then in place of rubles before the permanent som was introduced in July 1994.
The 2nd quarter 1993 coupons were issued as ration-adjacent vouchers rather than conventional banknotes — the quarterly designation itself encodes their intended obsolescence. Inflation was severe enough that denominations which seemed substantial at issuance were effectively worthless within months.
