Beschrijving keerzijde The National Theater of Costa Rica occupies the central vignette, rendered in fine intaglio engraving with detailed architectural precision. A jaguar appears in the left underprint, with a puma vignette at upper center, both referencing Costa Rica's native fauna. Opmerkingen

The 1994 commemorative 500 Colones was issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Banco Central de Costa Rica, established in 1950 — which makes the "50 Aniversario" framing slightly awkward, since the bank was only 44 years old in 1994. The date almost certainly refers to the 1944 founding of its predecessor institution, the Banco Nacional de Costa Rica's central banking functions, or possibly to enabling legislation that predated the bank's formal constitution.

Thomas De La Rue's involvement in Central American note production during this period was routine, but the commemorative series was short-lived and not reissued.
