| Reverse description | Cast brass coin with a central square perforation flanked by four inscriptions in two scripts. Above the hole, the Chinese character 當 ('equivalent to') appears, while below reads 五百 ('five hundred'), together denoting a denomination of 500 cash. To the left and right of the hole are the two syllables of the Manchu script rendering of the mint name 'Boo-gung' (ᠪᠣᠣ ᡤᡠᠩ), identifying the Baoding Mint. The characters and Manchu glyphs are boldly cast in high relief against a flat field, enclosed within a plain raised rim consistent with official Qing large-denomination cash coinage. |
