| Obverse description | Cast brass coin displaying four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged symmetrically around a central square perforation. Reading clockwise from the top, the legend reads 咸豐元寶 (Xianfeng Yuanbao), meaning 'Precious Currency of the Xianfeng [reign]'. The boldly rendered characters fill the quadrants of the field, with deep, crisp strokes typical of official Qing dynasty cast coinage. The coin is encircled by a plain raised rim, and the reverse of the square hole is framed by a slightly raised inner border. |
