Part of Rwanda's long-running "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" series, this issue uses reactive niobium coloring to distinguish the central element — a production technique pioneered by the Austrian Mint and licensed to select minting partners. The National Bank of Rwanda has no historical or geographic connection to classical antiquity; these coins exist entirely as numismatic products for the collector market, a revenue stream several small African nations formalized in the 2000s through arrangements with European minting houses.
The niobium core is anodized at a specific voltage to produce a fixed interference color — change the voltage by a few units and the hue shifts entirely.
