Rwanda has no historical or geographic connection to ancient Babylon — this is frankly a bullion curiosity issued for the collector market, part of a broader wave of themed niobium-core coins produced by European mints on behalf of African central banks in the 2000s and 2010s. The niobium centre can be anodized to produce colors impossible in conventional coinage, which is the entire technical point of the format.
