Rwanda has no geographic or historical connection to ancient Egypt, making this a purely commemorative issue aimed at the collector market — one of dozens of similarly themed niobium-core coins produced for small nations by the Austrian Mint in Vienna under licensing arrangements. The niobium centre is anodized to produce colour effects impossible with conventional alloys, a technique the Austrian Mint has refined since its first niobium issues for Austria in 2003.
