Obverse description Central field bears the national emblem of the Islamic State of Afghanistan, depicting a mosque with a mihrab and minbar flanked by two crossed Afghan flags, all surmounted by a rising sun and enclosed within a wreath of wheat sheaves, with crossed swords at the base. An Arabic inscription on a ribbon at the lower portion of the emblem renders the Shahada. The Arabic date 1422 (AH) appears within the emblem. The denomination 500 AFGHANIS is inscribed in two lines at the bottom of the field. The legend ISLAMIC STATE OF AFGHANISTAN curves along the upper periphery in Latin script, while Arabic inscriptions including the Takbir appear at the top of the coin.
