Obverse description	Central field bears the national emblem of the Islamic State of Afghanistan, depicting a mosque with minaret flanked by two national flags, all supported by a wreath of wheat sheaves, with a rising sun above and crossed swords at the base. An Arabic inscription appears above the emblem within the wreath. The circumferential legend reads ISLAMIC STATE OF AFGHANISTAN in Latin script along the upper border. The denomination 500 AFGHANIS is inscribed in two lines in the lower field below the emblem.

Reverse description	Colorful enamel-filled central field depicting a yellow and brown monoplane, representing the Spirit of St. Louis, in flight against a blue background map of the Atlantic Ocean. The Statue of Liberty appears in the left field, with a small circular portrait medallion of Charles Lindbergh in the upper right. The date 1996 is inscribed on the plinth of the Statue of Liberty at the base of the design. The circumferential legend THE WORLD OF ADVENTURE arcs along the upper border and CHARLES LINDBERGH along the lower border, both in raised Latin lettering within the uncolored silver rim.
