Stromeyer & Co. was a major linen and textile firm based in Konstanz — one of thousands of German commercial enterprises that issued their own emergency currency during the hyperinflation of 1923, when the Reichsbank simply could not print fast enough to meet demand. These privately issued Notgeld notes were legally permissible under the conditions of the time, though firms were technically liable for redemption in Reichsmarks on demand.
At 500,000 Mark, this note dates from the middle phase of the inflation spiral — by November 1923, denominations had reached the hundreds of billions. That context alone places it fairly precisely in the summer of 1923.
