Obverse description The obverse is printed in dark red on a pale green guilloche underprint composed of a dense geometric dot-and-rosette pattern. A decorative border of interlocking circles, infinity loops, and quatrefoil rosettes frames the entire face. The issuer's name 'Kreis Cleve' is set in Fraktur script at the upper centre, above the large denomination legend 'Fünfhunderttausend Mark' in bold Gothic lettering occupying the upper half of the note. Below, a five-line text block in smaller Fraktur script states the redemption conditions, followed by the place and date 'Cleve, den 6. August 1923' at lower left, and the authorising signatures at lower right beneath the designation 'Der Landrat / J. V.: der Kreisdeputierte'; a serial number in red prefixed 'No' appears at the bottom left.
