| Opmerkingen |
Glogau's Stadtbank was one of hundreds of German municipal and regional institutions authorized to issue emergency currency during the hyperinflation of 1923, when the Reichsbank simply could not print fast enough to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. At the peak, denominations jumped by factors of ten within weeks. A 500,000 Mark note, which would have represented a fortune in 1920, was by mid-1923 barely sufficient for a loaf of bread.
Carl Flemming & T. C. Wiskott A.G. was a Glogau-based printer with a long history in commercial and fine printing — the note was produced locally, which was logistically necessary given the sheer volume of notgeld being turned out across Germany that year.
