Ravensburg's Amtskörperschaft — the district administrative body — was among hundreds of German local authorities forced into emergency currency issuance during the hyperinflation peak of 1923, when the Reichsbank simply could not print fast enough to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. At 500,000 Mark, this note was already obsolete within weeks of printing; by November 1923, a single US dollar was exchanging for over four trillion Marks.

Ravensburg Notgeld of this period is moderately scarce in collector markets, as many issues were returned and destroyed once the Rentenmark stabilization took hold in late 1923.
