| Description de l’avers | Typeset notgeld note printed in dark violet on grey-beige paper, with an elaborate guilloche underprint filling the central field. The denomination "Fünfhunderttausend Mark" is set in large Gothic blackletter script beneath the heading "Gutschein über", with the numeral 500000 repeated in the upper and lower border panels. A four-line validity clause in Gothic script states acceptance at all public treasuries of the Siegkreis, followed by the place and date "Siegburg, 2. Aug. 1923" at lower left, with the authority line "Der Landrat i.V." and a manuscript signature above the printed title "Kreisdeputierter" at lower right. The outer border consists of a repeating foliate ornamental frame. |

Siegkreis — the rural district surrounding Siegburg, southeast of Cologne — was one of hundreds of German local authorities forced into emergency currency issuance during the hyperinflationary collapse of 1923. By the time this note was printed, the Reichsmark was losing value faster than new denominations could be authorized; district and municipal offices issued their own Notgeld not as a novelty but as the only practical way to make payroll and conduct basic commerce.
B. Kühlen in Mönchengladbach was a regional commercial printer, not a specialist banknote firm, which is exactly the point — by mid-1923 there was no time for specialist firms.
