Angola's kwanza reajustado was itself a replacement currency, introduced in 1995 to substitute the original kwanza at a rate of 1,000 to 1 — a ratio that reflects just how severely the civil war had eroded purchasing power by that point. The 500,000 denomination sits near the top of the reajustado series, which speaks to the inflation still running through the economy even as the new currency was being introduced.
The series was short-lived. By 1999, the kwanza reajustado was replaced again, this time by the second kwanza at 1,000,000 to 1.
