Reverse description A frontal effigy of Saint Stephen I, King of Hungary (reigned 1000–1038), occupies the centre of the field, depicted in a stylized Romanesque manner inspired by medieval manuscript and sculptural sources. The king is shown crowned with a closed royal crown adorned with fleur-de-lis finials, dressed in a draped royal mantle with detailed engraving, and holding a long lance or sceptre in his left hand and an orb surmounted by a patriarchal cross in his right. To the upper left of the figure, the regnal dates '1000' and '1038' are inscribed in two lines. The curved legend 'SZENT ISTVÁN KIRÁLY' (Saint Stephen King) arcs along the lower rim in bold Latin letters. A small engraver's monogram is visible in the lower right area of the field.
