| Beschrijving voorzijde | Uniface emergency note printed in dark brown on cream paper, with a fine guilloche border enclosing the entire face. The denomination 'Fünfhundert Millionen Mark' is set in large blackletter (Fraktur) script across the upper portion, with the numeral '500' repeated in each corner. A large pale grey underprint of the numeral '500' occupies the centre of the note, overlaid by the payment text and the date 'Halle (Saale), 26. September 1923'. To the lower left, a circular official stamp bears the Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) and the legend 'Reichsbahn-Direktion Halle (Saale)', with two manuscript signatures of authorising officials of the Reichsbahndirektion appearing below the issuer name. |

| Opmerkingen |
Railway administrations across Germany were authorized to issue emergency currency — Notgeld — during the hyperinflation peak of late 1923, when the Reichsbank simply could not print fast enough to meet wage demands. The Reichsbahndirektion Halle was one of several regional railway directorates that issued their own notes to pay workers directly, bypassing the collapsing central supply chain entirely.
At 500 million Mark, this note dates from the period when denominations were doubling within days. By November 1923, the Rentenmark reform made all such issues worthless overnight.
