A joint issue between two administrative districts and a municipality — Kreis Kreuznach, Kreis Meisenheim, and Stadt Kreuznach — this note is a product of the hyperinflation peak of late 1923, when Reichsmark-denominated Notgeld had to scale into the hundreds of millions just to cover basic transactions. The cooperation between county and city authorities to produce emergency currency under a single printer was administratively unusual and reflects how rapidly local governments were improvising.
Jung & Co. of Kreuznach were a local firm, not a specialist banknote printer — which matters for paper quality and ink consistency in surviving examples.
