| Obverse description | Printed in brown and ochre on cream paper, the obverse is framed by an ornate letterpress border of scrollwork and foliate arabesques enclosing a central oval guilloche underprint. The issuer legend "STADT BERGISCH GLADBACH / GUTSCHEIN ÜBER" occupies the upper field, with the denomination "Fünfhundert Millionen Mark" in bold Gothic script at centre above the numeral underprint "500 000 000". The lower field carries a clause of legal validity in small roman type, the date "Bergisch-Gladbach, den 20. Juli 1923", a facsimile Bürgermeister signature to the right, and a typeset serial number below. |
