| Obverse description | Printed in green and black on plain paper, the note bears the large Gothic blackletter denomination '500 Millionen Mark' across the upper portion, beneath which a green guilloche band displays the numeral '500 000 000' in open oval lettering. Three lines of Gothic script text in the centre panel state the conditions of acceptance by municipal cashiers and the guarantee of redemption by the Stadtgemeinde Trier, with the issuance date 'Trier, den 30. September 1923' and a manuscript signature of the Oberbürgermeister below. A red serial number within a green crosshatch cartouche appears at lower left, with validity and circulation district notices printed vertically along the left margin. |

| Reverse description | The reverse is printed entirely in green and carries a large central circular vignette reproducing the medieval seal of the City of Trier, showing Christ enthroned in majesty flanked by two haloed saints, with the Latin inscription 'DOMINUS BENEDICAT ET VRBEM SANCTA REVERIS TREVERICAM PLEBEM PETRUS EUCHARIS' around the circumference. The words 'STADT' and 'TRIER' are set in bold capitals to the left and right of the central seal respectively, while the border is composed of flowing scroll and wave ornaments.
