The Republic of Serbian Krajina was a self-proclaimed state carved from Croatian territory during the Yugoslav wars, never recognized internationally and ultimately dissolved when Croatian forces retook the region in August 1995. Its central bank issued notes in dinara tied closely to the Yugoslav dinar system, with denominations escalating rapidly as hyperinflation consumed the rump economy. By 1993 — the same year Yugoslavia's own inflation peaked at rates that made it among the worst in recorded history — a 500 million dinar face value was not extraordinary. It was routine.
ZIN in Belgrade printed this series, which means the physical production of currency for an unrecognized breakaway entity was handled by the official state printer of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
