Władysław I Łokietek — "the Elbow-high," so nicknamed for his reportedly short stature — unified the fragmented Polish duchies after more than two centuries of Piast dynastic subdivision and was crowned King of Poland at Kraków in 1320, the first such coronation in over a century.
