Poland's commemorative program of the late 1970s and early 1980s produced numerous trial strikes — próby — that were distributed through controlled channels to collectors and never released for general circulation. Kazimierz I Odnowiciel, the eleventh-century king who restored the Polish state after the pagan uprising of 1034 and the devastating Bretislaus raid, was a natural subject for this period's nationalist-inflected numismatic output.
The copper-nickel composition distinguishes this trial from related próby struck in silver. ParM and Fischer catalogues treat these variants separately, reflecting genuine collector demand for composition-specific tracking in the Polish trial series.
