Obverse description The Polish White Eagle displayed in the centre of the field, rendered as the national coat of arms with wings spread and head turned to the right, without a crown as per the People's Republic heraldic convention. The circular legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1980 is divided and flanks the eagle's talons on either side. The denomination 50, flanked by the currency abbreviation ZŁ on both sides, appears in large raised numerals in the lower portion of the field. The mint mark MW is incorporated discreetly into the design near the eagle.
