| Reverse description | The reverse presents a high-relief right-facing bust of King John III Sobieski, laureate and draped in armour with a fur-trimmed mantle, rendered in the medallic tradition after the original design by engraver J.J. Reichel. The king's effigy is portrayed with considerable sculptural depth, emphasizing his military bearing and regal countenance, with fine detail in the laurel wreath, facial features, and armour ornamentation. The curved Latin legend JOANNES. III. SOBIESCIUS. runs along the upper rim, terminating with a period at right. The engraver's signature I.I. REICHEL F. appears in small lettering in the lower exergue beneath the bust. The composition closely replicates an historic royal medal, in keeping with the Polish Royal Series commemorative programme. |
