| Obverse description | The Polish national arms — the White Eagle displayed with wings spread, head turned to dexter, set centrally in the field above the large denomination numeral '50' flanked by the abbreviations 'ZŁ' on either side. The mint date '1981' appears divided by the eagle's talons, with the mint mark 'MW' positioned beneath. The circular legend 'POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA' runs along the upper periphery, engraved by Anna Jarnuszkiewicz in a bold, relief style characteristic of the Polish People's Republic coinage series. |

The effigy is rendered in a stylised, medievalised artistic manner by engraver Ewa Olszewska-Borys, with long flowing hair and a full beard lending a commanding character to the portrait. The legend 'BOLESŁAW II' appears to the upper left and 'ŚMIAŁY' to the upper right of the bust, while the regnal dates '1058' and '1079' are inscribed in the lower field on either side of the truncation. |
