正面描述 Right-center intaglio portrait of Mao Zedong in three-quarter view, with his dates '毛泽东 1893-1976' inscribed below. To the left, the large denomination numeral '50' appears above the Chinese characters '伍拾圆' and a chrysanthemum vignette in dark underprint. The national emblem of the People's Republic of China is positioned at upper left, with the bank title '中国人民银行' across the top in a green guilloche field.

备注

This is a misprint variety of the 1999 fifth-series 50 Yuan note, catalogued separately as P#900 due to the absence of the romanized "YUAN" text that normally appears alongside the denomination. The omission is a production error rather than a deliberate design variant — the fifth series was the first to systematically incorporate pinyin romanization as part of its bilingual formatting, making the missing text a meaningful departure from the intended specification.

Error notes from Chinese state printing rarely reach the market; internal quality controls at the China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation are strict, and defective output is typically intercepted before distribution. Survivors are presumed to have slipped through in small quantities.
