Practice notes — known in Chinese as 点钞券 (diǎn chāo quàn) — were produced specifically for bank teller training and were never legal tender. The People's Bank of China issued these alongside the Fourth and Fifth Series renminbi to give trainees realistic handling experience without circulating actual currency. Construction and dimensions deliberately mirror genuine notes, but the serial numbering and overprinting mark them clearly as non-negotiable.
Collector interest has grown steadily since the early 2010s, partly because official destruction policies meant surviving examples weren't guaranteed. Training institutions were required to account for stocks, and surplus notes were supposed to be returned and pulped.
