| Aanvullende informatie |
The 1990 issue falls within the early period of the Panda gold series, launched in 1982 partly to generate foreign exchange earnings at a time when China was aggressively courting Western investment capital. Each annual Panda release features a new panda design — a deliberate policy decision made from the outset to drive collector demand and prevent the series from stagnating against established rivals like the Krugerrand and Maple Leaf.
1990 was also the first year the mint mark distinction between Beijing and Shenyang became commercially significant to collectors, with the small mintmark varieties now catalogued separately.
