Lady Guoguo was the elder sister of Yang Guifei, the celebrated consort of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang dynasty. The original painting attributed to Zhang Xuan — depicting the spring excursion of court ladies on horseback — dates to the 8th century, though the most famous surviving version is a Song dynasty copy now held in the Liaoning Provincial Museum. This coin belongs to China's ongoing series reproducing classical paintings in high-relief silver, a program launched in the 1980s that drew considerable collector interest both domestically and in international markets.
The 151.5g planchet allows the engravers room that smaller bullion formats simply cannot accommodate.
