Additional information

Issued to mark the twentieth anniversary of the accidental discovery of the Qin Shi Huang mausoleum complex by farmers digging a well near Xi'an in 1974, this coin appeared at a moment when Chinese commemorative gold programs were still establishing their international footing. The find itself — now understood to encompass roughly 8,000 figures across three pits — had been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site only four years before this coin was struck.

The half-ounce format places it within the PBC's broader 1993 archaeological series, which drew significant collector interest in Western markets during a period of rapid expansion in Chinese-themed precious metal issues.
