This issue belongs to China's long-running Chinese Inventions and Discoveries series, which the People's Bank launched in 1992 to assert China's historical primacy in technologies that transformed global civilization. The stern-mounted rudder is a legitimate claim: Chinese vessels were using axial rudders by the 1st century AD, roughly a thousand years before the device appeared in European maritime records.
