The Central Bank of China Printing Works expanded aggressively after the Japanese invasion forced the Nationalist government to relocate operations inland to Chongqing. By 1941, wartime inflation was already eroding purchasing power faster than new denominations could be introduced — the 50 Yuan note, a substantial sum just years earlier, was becoming a routine transaction amount rather than a significant one.
Printing quality across the 1941 issues is notoriously inconsistent, a direct consequence of degraded ink supplies and overworked presses under wartime conditions. Collector copies frequently show ink bleed and uneven impression pressure.
