Part of the People's Bank of China's ongoing ancient bronze ware series, this issue commemorates the ritual bronze cauldrons — ding — that functioned as symbols of political authority in Zhou dynasty China. Possession of the royal ding was understood as possession of the mandate to rule; the legendary "Nine Ding" cast by the Yu the Great were said to have vanished when the Zhou fell, taken by heaven itself.
The 155.55g specification is the standard 5-troy-ounce format China Mint favored for its large-format silver commemoratives during this period.
